What is the downside of Hulu live TV? ›

While Hulu + Live TV is available on quite a few devices, you're going to find that the number of devices you can use at the same time is somewhat restrictive. You're only allowed to watch on two screens at a time with your basic Hulu + Live TV subscription.

Hulu + Live TV isn't the best cable replacement service, but for some cord-cutters, it might be the best value. For $70 per month, you get a wide variety of live broadcast and cable TV channels, plus the full Disney bundle—Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu's on-demand service—which would cost $14 per month on its own.

Hulu + Live TV is basically just a streaming alternative to cable: For a monthly fee, you'll have access to live streams of many of the same channels that cable and satellite offer. That means live sports, news, and more on channels like AMC, CNN, ESPN, HGTV, and TBS. By default, Hulu has ads in its on-demand content.

What is the difference between Hulu Plus and Hulu live? ›

You can record live TV with unlimited complimentary cloud DVR storage included with your plan (starting on April 13). Hulu does not offer the live TV channels that you get with the Hulu + Live TV package, but you can still opt between an ad-free subscription or one with ads.

The difference between Hulu and Hulu Live TV is that Hulu without the live TV feature only gives access to ad-supported or no-ads streaming library, depending on your plan. The basic Hulu plan, aka Hulu, without the live TV costs $69.99 a year with ads and $12.99 a month without ads.

Be sure to enter 89406 for the zip code, if the site asks for a zip code. If you have a P.O. Box with an 89407-zip code, this could cause issues with certain channels (but not location errors). To avoid errors, enter 89406 as your zip code.

You'll continue to have access to Hulu until the end of your current billing cycle, but will not be charged moving forward. However, if you cancel during your trial period, please keep in mind that you will lose access to Hulu immediately.

You can download the Hulu app and activate your account on as many supported devices as you'd like, but only two of them can be streaming simultaneously. If you attempt to stream from an additional device, you may see an error message on that screen.

Outside of a few “skinny bundles,” most streaming packages are just as expensive as cable TV. We still consider streaming TV a cheaper alternative in the long-term, however, since price increases tend to be less severe with streaming services than they are with cable TV.

Finding local channels on Hulu + Live TV

Hulu local channels are navigated via the service's TV guide, which looks the same as viewers may be accustomed to on traditional cable services. They can scroll through live channels to see the shows that are currently airing and programming that's coming up.

What is the cheapest way to stream sports? ›

If you're looking for the cheapest option to stream your favorite sports and don't mind missing out on CBS and some regional NBA and MLB games, Sling TV is a top-tier choice.

Hulu + Live TV (With Ads) now includes Unlimited DVR at no additional cost for $69.99/month.

However, if you find you would miss live TV, then the cheapest option is adding Sling TV to that. Yet, even signing up for Hulu Plus Live TV and internet will cost less than a premium cable subscription and yield a similar number of channels.

The predominant logic in pulling back NBC shows from Hulu and making them exclusive to Peacock is almost certainly tied to increasing subscriber growth for Peacock, which has only 9 million paid subscribers despite launching nearly a year and a half ago.

NBCUniversal has terminated its content-sharing deal with Hulu as the company redirects its shows to its own, rival streaming service, Peacock, an NBCU spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter.

With Hulu, you can cancel at any time and easily renew your subscription if you choose to come back in the future. If you know that you'd just like to take a little break from TV, you may also have the option to pause your subscription for up to 12 weeks.

”Start Over” annoyances. As a minor consolation, Hulu does let you rewind, fast forward, and jump to the beginning of some live programs without having to record them at all. But this “Start Over” feature lacks the ad-skipping capabilities of an actual DVR.

Granted, you can watch the service on as many screens as you want if you upgrade to Hulu + Live TV, but you'll still have to purchase the Unlimited Screens add-on for an extra $10/mo. However, Hulu is the only service highlighted here that even offers unlimited simultaneous screens, so that's worth noting as well.
