The Omega Aqua Terra is part of the larger Seamaster Collection, a line of water-resistant sports watches that pay homage to the brand's maritime heritage. While the Seamaster line has been produced since 1948, it was in 2002 that the Aqua Terra was born.
Between the robust and sporty Seamaster 300M and the professional Planet Ocean 600M, the Aqua Terra was created to meet the need for a robust and elegant water-resistant watch. The smooth case and bezel, and the iconic teak concept lines across the dial, reflect the modern nautical lifestyle.
Aqua Terra is as advanced in engineering as it is in design. Modern models have a water resistance of up to 150 meters and an impressive anti-magnetic resistance of up to 15,000 gauss. The collection also offers a wide range of complications - from chronographs to world stopwatches.
Balancing functionality, sport and elegance, there is an Omega Aqua Terra watch for every need. Check out our collection of Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watches at SwissWatchExpo.com.
A SHORT HISTORY OF THE OMEGA SEAMASTER AQUA TERRA
The Omega Aqua Terra debuted as the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M in 2002. It immediately established itself as an everyday watch, combining the elegance of a formal watch with the durability of a diving watch. It achieves this both thanks to the streamlined housing, smooth bezel and beautifully carved dial, reminiscent of the wooden decks of yachts.
While water-resistant to 150 meters, the screw-down crown and case back make it a contemporary casual outfit that can be worn for almost any occasion.
The first generation Omega Aqua Terra models featured the Caliber 2500 movement, an ETA-based caliber with a coaxial escapement. Quartz models were also made available, especially for women's watches. It has a modern look with a polished case and bezel, and a sleek dial with tapered hour markers and a date window at 3 o'clock.
In 2008, Omega upgraded the Aqua Terra movement to the new Omega Caliber 8500 movement, developed and manufactured in-house. This equipped the watch with a quick-setting bouncing hour hand and an extended 60-hour power reserve. In addition, there is also the iconic dial with a teak pattern. Inspired by wooden decks on yachts, these vertical designs added a marine aesthetic to Aqua Terra.
In 2013, Omega took another revolutionary step. Omega has spent years developing its Caliber 8505 movement - a movement capable of withstanding magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. They introduced it to the Aqua Terra line with the reference number 231.10.42.21.01.002, making it one of the most anti-magnetic watches in the world at the time.
Also with this generation, Omega introduced in-line complications such as a chronograph, date, GMT and annual calendar.
The current generation of Omega Aqua Terra watches was launched in 2017 and features more noticeable aesthetic changes. First, there was a change from vertical teak patterns on the dial to horizontal patterns. They also changed the date window from 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock. Additionally, they eliminated the crown guards, replaced the standard conical crown, and redesigned the metal bracelet and rubber straps to be better integrated with the case.
In recent years, Omega has also released the Worldtimer and Ultra Light editions - Omega's first Gamma Titanium model.
Today, all Omega Aqua Terra models feature METAS-certified calibers and feature the latest anti-magnetic technology (up to 15,000 gauss). It continues to be extensive with a choice of sizes, metals and dial colors - solidifying its position as an everyday watch for all occasions.
