Pour certains, le futur de la simulation, pour d'autres, un gadget, la VR prend de plus en plus de place, et je ne vais pas m'en plaindre. À ce stade, je me demande également si je ne devrais pas remplacer mon Pimax 5K+ de confiance par une meilleure résolution. L'arrivée du nouveauSOMBREAero serait-il une option d'apprentissage ?
Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, VARJO développe des casques VR plus destinés aux professionnels pour les applications de réalité augmentée, le développement produit, l'ingénierie, le design... Jusqu'à aujourd'hui, il y avait 2 produits dans la gamme de la marque finlandaise, XR-3 et VR-3 . Le premier est plus axé sur la réalité augmentée et le second sur la VR, mais avec un niveau élevé en termes de résolution et de qualité d'image.
Également lors de la dernière édition de Simracing Expo (regarde ici) et je dois dire que le résultat est surprenant. Cela vaudrait la peine de les agrandir pour qu'il n'y ait pas d'effet wow ! Mais ces deux bijoux ont un prix, dirons-nous… important ! C'est en fait 3 195 $ pour le VR-3 et 5 495 $ pour le XR-3, plus un abonnement qui varie de 795 $ à 1 495 $ par an. Eh bien, vous avez dû comprendre que ce n'est pas pour les simples mortels, et je ne pense pas que ce soit le but de cette manœuvre.
Mais aujourd'hui, VARJO vient d'annoncer l'arrivée (et la commercialisation directe) d'un nouveau produit auprès d'un public un peu plus large. Nous pourrons mettre ce point en perspective un peu plus loin dans cet article. En termes simples, avec ce nouveau Varjo Aero, nous sommes libres de tous les abonnements. Et ce n'est rien ! Mais surtout, nous bénéficions de l'expertise de VARJO dans un produit haut de gamme, le haut du panier VR. Eh bien, tout le monde le dit !
techniquement génial ?
D'accord, mais regardons ce Varjo AERO. Quelques chiffres intéressants pour commencer, la résolution de l'objectif est de 2880 x 2720 par œil contre 2160 x 2160 pour le HP Reverb G2, l'un des meilleurs casques disponibles aujourd'hui. Chez Varjo on parle aussi de pixels par degré, à ce stade Aero propose 35 au lieu de 19 pour HP Reverb par exemple (plus c'est gros mieux c'est, non ?). Les lentilles sont également de grande qualité, elles sont asphériques et nuisent fortement à la qualité de l'écran (surtout la colorimétrie), on parle de cristal clair (voir capture d'écran ci-dessous). Par contre, le FOV n'est pas très important (115°), mais curieusement, dans le VR-3 je n'ai pas pris la peine de le voir !
Mais le Varjo Aero est également livré avec le suivi oculaire, qui permet d'optimiser l'affichage pour la zone visualisée à l'écran (double mini-LED ici). Bref, ce VARJO Aero embarque pas mal de technologie, comme le réglage automatique de l'IPD (distance interpupillaire). Il semble que nous n'ayons pas l'effet de porte moustiquaire et je veux le croire. Nous avons également noté le poids limité de 717g et porté une attention particulière au confort du bandeau, notamment le grip ergonomique au dessus du crâne et derrière la tête. Et bien, elle enfile ce petit nouveau, elle est mignonne !

Il est temps de parler du prix de ce petit casque. C'est parti, c'est parti, VARJO propose alors son casque Aéro à 1990€…HT. Donc pour nous, TVA comprise, nous avons presque 2 400 euros. Et juste pour être clair, il n'y a pas de bases ou de contrôleurs, aïe ! On est donc très proche des 3000€ si on doit tout acheter. Avez-vous dit au grand public?
Bon, apparemment ce n'est pas pour le grand public quand on sait qu'actuellement des casques haut de gamme (HP Reverb G2, Valve Index, HTC Vive Pro, Pimax 8KX, etc.) sont entièrement disponibles avec des prix allant de 650 à 1500 euros. La réflexion devra également tenir compte du fait que les casques actuels de certaines marques commencent un peu à vieillir. Je pense que 2022 apportera des nouveautés. A commencer par PIMAX, qui devrait nous en dire plus sur son évolution ce lundi soir, et d'autres suivront.

Bref, étant le passionné de VR que je suis, je serais quand même tenté par ce VARJO Aero si je le pouvais (et si je n'avais pas raison). Je suis sûr qu'il roule fort. Bien sûr, le prix est élevé, mais je pense que nous avons franchi la ligne. C'était le premier avec l'oculus DK1, le second avec le CV1 (le premier grand public, que j'ai payé plus de 700 euros à l'époque, sans pieds ni manettes), et cet Aero sera peut-être le prochain. Dommage, je vais essayer de faire un test dès que possible pour voir ce qui se passe. et qui sait...

J'avoue que je suis content que ça arrive !! Mon Rift S vieillit et je ne savais pas quoi acheter. Mais du coup je ne sais toujours pas quoi prendre car Varjo est TOP mais j'ai des doutes si les grands 2 (ou 3) répondront dans peu de temps ou pas. Parce que le prix fait un peu mal, et je ne peux pas imaginer que Valve, Oculus et HP sortent un casque à ce prix.
Il y a aussi le hand tracking, qui m'intéresse aussi, très important parmi les simulateurs de vol. En général, les grands fabricants (valves, oculus, etc.) ont un avantage technologique. Pensez-vous qu'ils y travaillent et qu'en 2022 vous nous sortirez un casque avec une résolution Varjo et des mines de suivi pour 600 € ?

Oui, c'est une bonne nouvelle, mais le prix mord vraiment. À ce stade, je pense que la meilleure réponse est PIMAX avec 12K. J'ai aussi pris le risque d'acheter le 8KX pour remplacer mon 5K+ car le prix d'achat sera entièrement déduit du prix du 12k lors de sa sortie. Par contre, ma carte graphique a du mal :). Mais par contre, à 600 il n'y a rien pour l'instant et je ne pense pas que ça viendra. Cependant, vous pouvez toujours opter pour la réverbération HP 😉Répondant
